Background of the Study

Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) analysis is an essential tool in managerial accounting, used to understand the relationship between costs, volume, and profits. In the context of local government planning, CVP analysis helps in evaluating the financial impact of various decisions, such as resource allocation and expenditure management. For Kafanchan LGA, effective application of CVP analysis can optimize budget allocation for projects, improve financial planning, and ensure efficient use of public funds. This study aims to examine how CVP analysis can be applied in local government planning in Kafanchan LGA to enhance financial decision-making and long-term sustainability.

Statement of the Problem

Local governments in Nigeria, including Kafanchan LGA, often face challenges in making accurate financial decisions due to the lack of proper costing techniques and financial management tools. As a result, there is a tendency for inefficiencies in resource allocation, leading to the mismanagement of public funds. CVP analysis offers a systematic approach for understanding how cost changes affect revenue and profitability. However, its application in local government planning in Kafanchan LGA is underexplored. This study seeks to investigate the potential of CVP analysis in improving local government planning and decision-making.
